William L. Pyatt was born and reared in Conway, South Carolina

He graduated from Whittemore High School with Honors and thereafter went to Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia where he received a B.A Degree in Political Science. After leaving Morehouse, he enrolled at the University of South Carolina School of Law, where he received his J.D. Degree in 1975.

Attorney Pyatt has been in the private practice of law since 1975, practicing with various firms and with his own firm.

Additionally, Attorney Pyatt has received extensive experience as a criminal defense attorney while serving as Chief Public Defender for Newberry Country for over 11 years.

Attorney Pyatt has also taught courses in the areas of business law and criminal justice at Allen University, Benedict College and Midlands Technical College.

Attorney Pyatt is admitted to practice law in South Carolina as well as the United States District Court for the District of South Carolina, United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit and the United States Supreme Court.

Attorney Pyatt has the distinction of being certified to defend as “First Chair” in South Carolina Death Penalty cases.

Attorney Pyatt is a member of or affiliated with the American Civil Liberties Union, the NAACP, AARP, SC Black Lawyers Association, Southern Poverty Law Center and Lawyers Committee for Civil rights Under the Law.
